If you're looking for a reliable and skilled contractor in Toronto area , I highly recommend Hadasa Contracting. They truly deliver exceptional work and outstanding customer service.
Last year a contractor took a job for building a retaining wall in my backyard, dug two huge pits and never came back. As the pits were there all winter and they did nothing to secure we had huge landslide causing damage to my and my neighbours' properties. Upon calling that company multiple times and not getting any help from them we decided to termiate the contract with them and hire Hadasa to fix the damage and finish the walls. Hadasa came to our rescue. They fixed all the problems and compleated the wall. Very good people, they know there stuff and go above and beyond to help their clients. Thanks Daniel and team. I will defenitly hire them in the future if I need them.

When my first contractor bailed on the project leaving me with a very short timeframe to get the job finished, Hadasa C & E stepped right up and got it done. In spite of weather issues, they completed my project in time, paying attention to the small details and providing me with a top quality concrete pad. I would definitely recommend them and will use them again for any additional work I need done.

CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS

Concrete foundations provide a strong, stable base for buildings, distributing weight evenly and ensuring durability. The standard method of pouring foundations starts with forming and pouring footings. Then, forms are installed according to the drawings, with correct measurements, elevations, and openings in mind. Concrete is poured between the forms (with installation of rebar already completed), and later removed after concrete has cured. Installation involves excavation, formwork, rebar reinforcement, concrete pouring, and curing. Proper drainage and waterproofing help prevent cracks and structural issues over time. For additions and new build foundations in Markham, Richmond Hill, and the surrounding GTA, call HADASA for your trusted local foundation contractors.

QUESTIONS WE’RE OFTEN ASKED

There are three common types of foundations used; regular form foundations, block foundations, and ICF foundations. The pricing for each differs but may provide benefit depending on soil conditions, building size, budget, time line, and accessibility. If a space is very small and may need a lot of extra work to excavate, a simpler and less time-consuming method could be to use ICF.

While a block foundation might save you more upfront costs than a poured foundation, there are several cons to using this method. Cinder block foundations are more susceptible to cracking over time, especially in areas with shifting soil or freezing temperatures. They tend to have more water issues, and are prone to water penetration unless properly sealed or reinforced. They also tend to have weaker structures and are generally not as strong or resilient as poured concrete in terms of load bearing capacity. This is a method that we try to steer clear from unless absolutely necessary due to space constraints.

Your engineer will make this decision. You will find these specifications within your building permit. Thickness does vary based on load requirements. Basement walls range from 8-12 inches, while foundation slabs are usually 4-6 inches in thickness.

Cracks do happen, but there are several things that can be done to help prevent this and avoid any future issues such as water penetration. Proper site preparation, rebar reinforcement, controlled curing, and expansion joints help minimize cracking. Waterproofing, insulation, good drainage installation, and proper grading will help prevent any water damage in the future.

This is one of the most frequently asked questions we get. You can absolutely pour a foundation in cold weather. That being said, there are certain conditions that need to be met to do so. The weather, although cold, cannot be below -10ºC due to the capabilities of the pumping equipment. Tools such as insulated blankets, heated enclosures and concrete mix additives (winter mix) are needed to prevent freezing and ensure proper curing.

Building can typically begin once the concrete has cured enough to support loads, usually after a week, with full strength achieved in about 28 days.
