Last year a contractor took a job for building a retaining wall in my backyard, dug two huge pits and never came back. As the pits were there all winter and they did nothing to secure we had huge landslide causing damage to my and my neighbours' properties. Upon calling that company multiple times and not getting any help from them we decided to termiate the contract with them and hire Hadasa to fix the damage and finish the walls. Hadasa came to our rescue. They fixed all the problems and compleated the wall. Very good people, they know there stuff and go above and beyond to help their clients. Thanks Daniel and team. QUESTIONS WE’RE OFTEN ASKED

It really depends on what you are demolishing, however the general rule is that the demolition or material alteration of any building, addition, or structure does require a permit with your local issuing municipality. It’s best to contact your local building department for confirmation.

As the property owner, you must contact your local hydro (electricity) provider, your municipality (water), as well as your local gas distributor (natural gas) to request a service shut off. Each of these providers are independent of the other and need to be contacted separately. Wait times for service shut offs can vary (ex. Enbridge takes 6 – 8 weeks) and need to be scheduled well in advance.

Demolition projects can range from small homes to larger budlings and the time it takes to complete can involve several factors; machine access (size of machine), closeness of neighboring properties, whether any part of the existing structures must remain, and the size of the demo. We see that on average, the total demolition of a small home usually takes 1 day to demolish, 1 day to haul away the debris, and 1-2 days to remove the foundation. A typical 1,500 sq ft home can take anywhere from 3 – 5 days.

As a part of building additions, we often have to remove specific sections of exterior walls to join the addition to the existing home. Our first step is identifying the constraints of the project. By singling out the critical components that should not be compromised, we then form a plan to work around them to complete the selective demolition according to the site plans.

Typical building permits do not have a demolition plan made but simply outline the parameters. Some projects require an onsite meeting with the engineer to discuss what method will be used to ensure structural integrity of the existing home. Developing these plans and on-site meetings with the engineers is service that Hadasa Contracting includes in the pricing to ensure smooth work flow.

When pricing a demolition job we always include the cost of removing the waste and debris unless the client specifically requests otherwise. At Hadasa Contracting we use our own waste and disposal bins saving the client the hassle of finding a company, managing the quantity of bins ordered, and additional costs potentially incurred when hiring a subcontractor.

We demolish all types of poured concrete including curbs, sidewalks, stairs and driveways. We will remove the waste and can also re-pair these components, installing new concrete in it’s place.
