Frequently asked Questions;

Do I need shoring for my foundation?

Shoring?

As it comes down to particular situations, some homes are not compatible with straight open cut excavation and require some type of shoring. Shoring is typically advised to done when there is a structure close to the open excavation and it is not far back enough to be properly supported by its self without the soil being there and holding it in place.

What needs shoring?

These are large heavy and not moveable item’s such as pools large sheds and most of all neighboring walkways and foundations. When designing your homes foundation consider lot lines and neighboring properties as shoring will be required.

What can be done instead of shoring?

A 1 to 1 slope approach will be best when digging next to neighboring foundation as not to undermine there footings this is called benching the walls.

How do you determine price?

Existing conditions

Our first steps in determining the price is by taking a look at existing site conditions, this we be road access for our trucks that bring in the equipment and the dump trucks that haul the debris away. If your site is located in a downtown busy neighborhood expect for higher costs as trucking will take longer time.

Equipment Access

Access for large equipment is key to keeping your costs down so that larger equipment can finish the work required more efficiently. This is sometimes imposable as some home additions are located in the backyard and the access space between the neighboring house is only 4′.

Volume of DIRT

Excavation projects are based on price per ton of material moved. This is a simple calculation that you can do by just multiplying length x width by depth this will give you a volume of materiel you have that needs to be removed then multiply the volume by its density per cubic meter and you will have a total tonnage of material that needs to be hauled out.

Hauling

Hauling using tractor trailers  is the most efficient and most cost effective matter but this is simple not always possible. The next solution would be dump trucks and this is the most typical way for residential excavation work. The most expensive and sometimes the only way possible due to tight space and no access is by roll off bins.

Home Additions

Excavation for small additions are typically less than 30′ x 30′ and no deeper than 10′. Anything exceeding these measurements will be considered a large excavation. Typical logistical planning would be smaller equipment, conveyor belts, buggy’s anything that would fit into the space. Some times dump trucks are not able to be used and only small 14 yard roll of bins to haul away the dirt for the lack of large equipment available to load dump trucks. This is something for you to consider when budgeting your project accesses are everything for keeping costs down.
